SET YOUR GOALS
Set goals - it all starts with having clear and realistic
goals. Write down the things you want to change in your diet. Also write down
the goals you want to have, no matter what you look like, and modify your diet
accordingly. It is best to set immediate, short-term, and long-term goals. If
you try all at once, you may feel overwhelmed and give up shortly before it
even starts. Achieve one goal at a time, day by day, this is not a race. You
can also write down the reasons why you want to change your eating habits. You
can share your goals with others that you think will help you achieve them. You
can set your goals (in places where you will see them every day) to motivate
you more. When I decided to lose weight, I had sheets stuck all over the
apartment that said YES, YOU CAN DO IT. As you achieve the goals, mark them.
This will give you the feeling that you have achieved something, and you will
be even more excited to achieve the next goal.
HAVE REAL EXPECTATIONS
Every diet should work for you, not against you. You need to
be realistic when it comes to dieting. The plan should work for you and your
current situation. It should be appropriate for your schedule and budget. If
you do not follow your budget, your food expenses will be very high and you
will have to give up. If you can not cook according to your schedule and when
to eat, you will be in a situation looking for appropriate "healthy"
substitutes. So be realistic with time, and give yourself extra time to prepare
your food early. You should also know that obstacles will appear in your way
from time to time to slow down your progress, so do not think that everything
will be easy and that it will just happen. It takes serious and dedicated work
to change your lifestyle.
BE PROACTIVE
Make a list of your favorite healthy foods that you enjoy, and what foods you can take to work, in
the car, at school, etc. You can make different menus, where you will be in
that part of the day when you need to eat certain foods. Never look for excuses
when you should have your meal. Always have healthy food on hand. If you do not
have it, you will eat what comes first, whether it be something
sweet, fast food, or something like that. This can get you off track and make it
a habit to eat fast food alternatives. Know where you will be in that part of
the day when you are free to cook, shop and plan gradually. If you fail to
plan, your plan is to fail.
CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
Many people are constant
when it comes to diet, but many forget this important element.
Make a plan and stick to it. Try to eat at the same time every day, and the
same caloric volume of meals. Your body will recognize this way it will speed
up your metabolism and your energy levels will be high. You will feel better
and get into a healthy routine. It is easy to sabotage yourself by taking
something sweet just because you failed to control your current emotional
crises. The time you spend on planning and constancy is a real long-term
investment and will serve you for the rest of your life.
BE FLEXIBLE
Of course, even the best diets sometimes fail. Sometimes
your eating routines need to change. When you can, plan ahead and plan where
you will be to bring food so you can eat when you are in a hurry. For example -
a packet of almonds, protein chocolates, and shakes, fresh fruit. You can also educate yourself about
nutrition online, through books and magazines. With this knowledge, you can learn and improvise to find out which
foods you can properly include in your diet, for example when you are out with
friends or do not have time to cook. Find products that take less time to eat
so you can take them with you when you are in a hurry.
DO NOT BE STRICT TO YOURSELF
Do not be too strict with yourself - no one is perfect all
the time. If you miss something, miss a few meals, or have a few bad days, just
recover and move on. Do this for yourself, the extra stress of not meeting your
goals for those days can lead to long-term failure in your diet. Being healthy
and eating healthy does not mean that you can not occasionally enjoy food that
is not in your diet.
STAY UP TO YOUR PLAN
Stick to your plan -
it takes time to acquire healthy habits. After a month of eating constantly,
you will create a habit. You will realize that everyone has bad days from time
to time, which will be a normal part of your life.
HAVE FUN
Eating the right foods requires dedication, hard work, and
sacrifice. Do not get upset because of small obstacles in the way. You have the
power to turn every negative into a positive, and you have the choice to look
at every event positively no matter how it looks. Find fun ways to motivate
yourself. Involve your friends or family. Challenge yourself at home, or with
friends, or at work to eat healthier. Give yourself time to cook new and untried
recipes. You make changes for the better - so why not have fun.
Know that changing eating habits can be difficult for
everyone. Just think how long you have had the old bad habits, and realize that
you will not be able to change them overnight, but you will change them over
time. "Congratulate" yourself on every healthy choice you make, you
deserve it. Self-praise builds self-confidence and makes you feel good about
the healthy choices you make, and it will keep you on the path to
self-improvement.
DO NOT HURRY - THERE IS NO SHORT-CUT
Do not rush - often people start with a lot of intentions
and want to achieve everything at once. They become obsessed with many things,
and soon give up even before they start. Adding small changes can really make a
big difference. Work on an instant job and constantly add something smaller.
Before you know it, you will find that you have many healthy habits that match
each other to make you a healthy lifestyle and a healthier and happier person.
